I am an APA Titled Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist.  When I first graduated from UQ in 2010,  I went straight into working in private practice, first in Brisbane and then in Melbourne for 5 years before moving to the UK. In London, I had the opportunity to work in specialist shoulder instability & chronic pain teams at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital before taking up a one year contract at The London Clinic.

Next I spent two years in Kuwait developing the physiotherapy department in the Elite Fitness gym before moving back to Australia. I was lucky enough to work for QLD Health at their Brighton rehabilitation unit before starting my own business FKB Physio in July 2020.

I decided to start my own business because I found that I did not feel comfortable with the way many physiotherapy practices are run.  I feel as though often the focus is on getting patients to constantly rebook and that money is often a major motivation, rather than the patients and what they need.

I value long appointment times so that we can really get to the bottom of what is going on without having to worry about time pressure.  I believe in deciding together with the patient whether they feel follow up is what they need or whether they just needed some insight into their situation before going on to manage independently.

I value movement and getting people back to doing what they want to be doing as soon as possible, and reminding people what their bodies are still capable of doing, regardless of pain or injury.

I felt that the only way I could be free to do this was to start my own business and base it within gyms so that we could get out and get moving ASAP.

I am lucky that my main hobby outside of work, which is training in the gym, is so closely linked to how I now practice. I have been into the gym since 2006 when I become a Les Mills instructor. I still teach Les Mills classes today (mainly body attack) and have taken it with me across the various locations I have lived these last 15 years.  I used to love running, completing multiple half marathons and one full marathon before realising it wasn't for me and swapping to strength training in 2014.  I've participated in 3 powerlifting competitions so far (and more to come i'm sure!).

I have a special interest in bone health in women, and run Bone Density classes out of the gyms I work from.  This gives me the unique chance to combine my interest in strength training with my work. I am passionate about encouraging women to look after their bone health as early as possible, which means performing strength training, never stopping jumping, and eating adequately to fuel their bodies.
